Gmail is one of the most widely used e-mail providers nowadays. A huge number of people use it for both personal and business needs, and given the fact that it’s tightly integrated with other Google services, it is no surprise that this is the case.
However, it sometimes happens that we accidentally delete our e-mails. This could range from a small mistake, if they were some advertising messages, but if it’s something important, that could be a thing that causes a lot of headaches. A lot of users are wondering if there’s a way to get back your e-mails if you’ve deleted them.
There are two possible situations here, one is that you’ve only sent items to the trash, and the other one is if you’ve permanently deleted the messages. There is a solution for both of them, so read on to see how you can recover your messages.
Situation 1: Messages sent to trash
If messages are sent to trash, and no more than 30 days have passed, they’re still there. After 30 days, however, they get permanently deleted.
- Log in to your Gmail
- Click the Trash
- Select the message in question.
- Open the Move to drop-down menu, and choose The message should now be back in your inbox.
Situation 2: Messages are deleted permanently
If messages are permanently deleted, fear not, you can still bring them back. It is also fairly simple.
- Log in to your Gmail
- From the top, at the right end of the search box, click the drop-down arrow.
- This will give you a number of options that you can use to narrow down your search. Avoid them, and click the blue search button at the bottom left. You will get an error Invalid search query – returning all mail but ignore this error.
- This will reveal all of your e-mails, including the ones you’ve deleted.
Even though some might not see this as a big problem, having all your messages deleted from your Gmail account can lead to some pretty serious issues, especially if you’ve used that e-mail for business. However, all you need to do is follow the steps in the methods above, and you will have your e-mails back in no time.
