How to create GridView Layout in an Android App using Kotlin?


This example demonstrates how to create GridView Layout in an Android App using Kotlin.

Step 1 − Create a new project in Android Studio, go to File? New Project and fill all required details to create a new project.

Step 2 − Add the following code to res/layout/activity_main.xml.

Step 3 − Add the following code to src/MainActivity.kt

      gridView = findViewById(R.id.gridView)

      gridView.adapter = mainAdapter
      gridView.onItemClickListener = OnItemClickListener { _, _, position, _ ->

Step 4 − Create a Kotlin class (MyAdapter.kt) and add the following code

import android.widget.TextView

      return 0

   position: Int,

      var convertView = convertView
      if (layoutInflater == null) {

Step 5 − Create a Layout Resource file (row_item.xml) and add the following code −

   android:layout_height="wrap_content"

   android:textAlignment="center"
   android:gravity="center"

   android:layout_marginTop="16dp"
   android:text="Numbers"
   android:layout_marginBottom="10dp"
   android:textColor="@android:color/background_dark"

Step 6 − Add the following code to androidManifest.xml

Let's try to run your application. I assume you have connected your actual Android Mobile device with your computer.
