Motivation

[edit]

This property is required since Nintendo changed their URL scheme for the eShop. Previously, it was a opaque string, and now they are using a readable slug. The older scheme is still visible in the game page HTML code, so it seems to still be used internally, but that's harder to search the shop for it, while the new slug make it trivial to link to the page. A more complete discussion can be found on Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Video_games#Nintendo_changed_their_eShop. It was proposed to keep the older scheme in place and create a new property, and adjust existing data with OpenRefine.

Also, I can't figure how to write the regexp without interfering with the wikicode, but that's what I plan to use to filter the data: [-a-z0-9]+-(switch|wii-u\|3ds)$ .

Support as "Nintendo eShop ID" It's not really a URL, it's part of a URL, so it would make more sense to call it an eShop ID. --SixTwoEight (talk) 01:36, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

True, but we also have already Nintendo of America Game Store ID (former scheme) (P4685), and I would like to have a distinct enough name so people do not get confused between the 2. --Misc (talk) 23:49, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What about "Nintendo eShop slug" (en:Clean_URL#Slug) ? --Misc (talk) 23:52, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so I did change a bit, tell me if that's better. --Misc (talk) 22:15, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
