Oregon Historic Sites Database ID
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Place
Motivation
[edit]This new Wikidata property for authority control for cultural heritage (Q18618628) would help improve our coverage of the history of Oregon (Q3136914). Thierry Caro (talk) 09:41, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

- Comment While this property would work for now, I don't see any commitment by the administrators of the Oregon database to maintain these ID numbers next time the database is moved to a new software platform. This is in contrast to the World Heritage Site ID (P757) or NRHP reference number (P649), which are used consistently across different contexts and platforms. I worry that the Oregon database moves to a different ID number schema in a few years, and then we're left with a bunch of statements and references that are useless or misleading. — Ipoellet (talk) 21:23, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- I know it's a risk but I guess it's a risk worth taking. And we are actually taking it pretty much every day with new properties that are often in the same situation. Using as IDs what really is more URL parts that may change after a few years. Ah! What can we do but hope everything is stable enough? Here the thing seems quite solid, to be honest.
