Motivation
[edit]There have been 2 unsuccessful proposals related to Jyutping (Wikidata:Property_proposal/Jyutping_(2)). The rationale is similar to those in the previous proposal. Previously suggested solutions appear to be dysfunctional. This one includes more Cantonese transliteration systems, addressing some concerns mentioned in previous proposals. These 4 are chosen as they are the only systems (besides IPA) used in enwiktionary's zh-pron template for Standard Cantonese pronunciation. H78c67c (talk) 18:53, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Support I was surprised to find we didn't have these when I was trying to add romanisations for Cantonese. - Nikki (talk) 22:17, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support why not? Mahir256 (talk) 01:06, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Support, just like Hanyu Pinyin transliteration (P1721) as raised in its property proposal, it is not purely transliteration. There are tones and they spell differently. Sun8908 💬 03:08, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Strong support Jyutping as the most commonly used standard for phonetic transcription of Hong Kong Cantonese, Support all other three as other well-recognised standards. Opposition in previous proposals missed the point about the purpose of Cantonese romanisation and its intended role in the Lexeme space. The lack of a devoted Jyutping property has been stifling the development of Cantonese Lexemes and it's about time we fixed it. Deryck Chan (talk) 17:12, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
