Motivation
[edit]In conjunction with Companies Registration Office (Ireland) Registration Number (P9679), could be used to point to status of a particular charity. number can be used to search Register of Charities (Q105651056) at https://www.charitiesregulator.ie/en/information-for-the-public/search-the-register-of-charities (no direct URL unfortunately). Helps to disambiguate similar organisations. Discussion
[edit]- Comment Oh cool, I see a lot of valuable NPO-Data. Looks like a great catalog for Mix'n'match. But wouldn't be the Registered Charity Number (RCN) the better ID? So in case of the Irish Kidney Association 20011260 instead of 6327? Not all registered charities have the CHY like Open Doors with Brother Andrew. Also the RCN would allow direct Links like https://www.charitiesregulator.ie/en/information-for-the-public/search-the-register-of-charities/charity-detail?regid=20011260. I think every organization with a CHY also has a RCN, but not the other way around. So as an ID the RCN would be better. But I'm not from Ireland, perhaps the CHY holds additional information about tax clearance? --Newt713 (talk) 12:07, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- I think there's an argument for both, CHY is managed by the tax man, RCN by the Charity Regulator. I see mixed usage in organisation websites (which are expected to include trading name, company reg. details and charity details in their footers) (Focus Ireland quotes CHY, Dogs Trust quotes RCN, Scouting Ireland quotes both, while Irish Kidney Association and Irish Water Safety each quote neither). CHY is certainly better known, as the Charity Regulator is less than 10 years in existence. Bogger (talk) 16:41, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- Okay. For the use as an indicator in the Register of Charities, I would propose the RCN because it's managed by the Charity Regulator and every entry in the database has a RCN. So matching the database with wikidata would be easier. But I see no reason not to create the CHY Number as well.--Newt713 (talk) 18:30, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

- Support I proposed the RCN as an additional ID to make the automatic identification with the website data of the Charity Regulator easier. --Newt713 (talk) 11:50, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
