Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors

1
Kholoudsaa (talkcontribs)

Dear Lucas Werkmeister,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at [] or [] or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Kholoud

Q3667188: comune is masculin in Italian

2
Robykiwi (talkcontribs)

Dear Lucas,

I corrected the Italian definition "comune francese soppressa" to "comune francese soppresso", because "comune" is masculin in Italian. See the corresponding Italian Wikipedia page (first sentence): https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherbourg

I'd recommend that you revert to masculine.

In its feminine meaning, it refers to: the French Jacobin government or "a form of collective organization of life and work in which the ownership and management of the means of production and services is in common and the distribution of the product is made partly according to the work done and partly according to the different needs of each person and families."

I’m sorry, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Can you link to the relevant edit?

Hi Lucus,

Dentith's names are all listed on the title page of his dissertation (Q112201029). Some of them don't exist as given names in Wikidata yet, but I don't have the energy to create them for this special case. You could however reinstate the deleted ones using the thesis as a ref if you liked.

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

I’ve added that thesis as a reference to the first given name (P735) statement; I feel no obligation to reinstate “given names” that are in fact items for unrelated non-name concepts.

(Given that the thesis is from 2012, that their website and academic identifiers only identify them as “M R. X.”, and that they are nonbinary according to a sadly unreferenced statement on their item, I was also wondering if they still go by all those names or if they might have left them behind, but this archived tweet would seem to confirm that they still used those names last year, at a time when they already had they/them pronouns in their bio.)

Hello @Lucas Werkmeister (WMDE): a week ago! I heard about the WMA programme and I got so excited to join. I have been contributing to the WMF projects for 9 years now and I feel its the time to contribute differently. I read about the projects you do and I would love to have you as my mentor. Please say yes :) I do not have any previous experience with programming or any relevant technical experience, but I am curious learner and also have been working in Tech for 7 years now, I would say I am quite familiar with many things but with no hands on experience. ~~~~~.

Lucas Werkmeister (talkcontribs)

Sure, we can give it a go! What’s the best way to talk to you – maybe Telegram?

May Hachem93 (talkcontribs)

Hi Lucas!! Yayyyy, sure, Telegram works for me.
