A subclass of B and instance of B

@Infovarius: why do you think this position/office (должность) should be a subclass of a role? You added it in 2013 [1] as subclass of president, I moved it to instance of president in 2024 [2], you reverted it [3].

If this specific position should be a subclass of role, then each specific position should be a subclass of role. But then it should not be an instance of a role too, because an entity A cannot be an instance of B and a subclass of B at the same time. CV213 (talk) 18:27, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

@CV213: Let me explain how I think, may be in not in formal terms. I regard the position as a (description of) class of people (which occupy it). "President" is a class of people, Q218295 is also a class and obviously all instances of the second class belongs to the first, so there should be "subclass" relation. Contrarily "role" is a metaclass (we can't say that people "are roles", they "are presidents"), so the relation to it should be "instance of". But you've moved it to superclass making all people roles too. It's not logical. --Infovarius (talk) 12:11, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

@Infovarius: A position or role is not a class of people. An individual human is not an instanceOf a role or a president, but an individual assumes a position/role/office.

Among the 1 500 000+ items that have an ISNI only ~28 have P279 subclassOf. According to ISNI (https://isni.org/page/linked-data/) the items are either "Person" or "Organization", in VIAF the terms seem to be "Personal" and "Corporate". Person includes humans, gods, mythical and fictional characters. Organization includes companies, less formal organizations, musical groups, and "1-person-organizations" like public offices / positions.

President of the Russian Federation 'could' be modelled as a class, but then it should be done so for all organizations too, which currently is not the way it is done in WD. Specific organizations, positions etc. are modelled as instances. McDonald’s (Q38076) is an instance of an organization, it isn't a subclassOf anything (in WD). So, I think subclassOf is best not used on specific organizations, groups or positions (1-person-organization).

@Oravrattas: an issue related to Talk:Q477155#Organization as a class exists here. The RU-president could be an organization. It has an ISNI, so according to ISNI it is an instance of either Person or Organization, since ISNI only has these two classes. VIAF has it "Corporate" , GND too ("kio").
