EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Police in Evansville say they arrested a man Thursday night after he repeatedly crashed his SUV into a building.
Officers were patrolling in the area of Fares Avenue and Morgan Avenue around 7 p.m. Thursday when they say they spotted 34-year-old Shawn Kohlmeyer ramming a building in an SUV.
EPD says Kohlmeyer was seen crashing into the automotive shop "Integrity 2" repeatedly, causing heavy damage to both the structure and his vehicle.
As officers yelled for Kohlmeyer to stop, they say he disregarded their commands and hit the building about seven times before finally stopping and getting out of the vehicle.
When officers placed Kohlmeyer into custody, they say he told them he drove there to "record his car" and that he was trying to put the vehicle in park.
As officers talked to Kohlmeyer, they say they noticed his eyes were red and glossy, and that he smelled like alcohol. They say they also noticed vomit in the SUV where Kohlmeyer had been sitting, and that some of it was on his leg as well.
Kohlmeyer was taken to the hospital for clearance, where police say he yelled and screamed.
While being taken to jail, EPD says Kohlmeyer repeated questions about what his charges were and what happened. Each time officers answered Kohlmeyer's questions, they say he began to cry and say he was sorry, and that he hoped no one was hurt.
Kohlmeyer was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges including criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, DUI, and criminal mischief.
