Our Lady on the River Against Human and Sex Trafficking Ministry will host its annual spring fundraiser April 26 to raise funds for the Alliance to End Human Trafficking.
This year’s event will feature a Tina Turner and Motown’s Jackie Wilson tribute. It will run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.
“Our Lady on the River Against Human Trafficking’s spring fundraiser will be in a new venue at the Algonquin Elementary School,” OLR Against Human and Sex Trafficking Ministry Chairwoman Rose Rumball said. “We will be using their newly renovated auditorium with comfortable seating.”
Rumball said that since there will be two entertainers this year, organizers will just serve light snacks during the break, instead of a dinner like in previous events.

“We will have our 50/50 and gift basket raffles,” she said. “This year, we will have a spring basket, a kitchen basket, a wine basket, a patio food serving basket, a tool box full of tools, a ‘man’ basket and much more.”
Additionally, the event will feature a special guest.
“Pearl from ‘Pearl, Unchained’ from St. Clair is a survivor of trafficking,” Rumball said. “She will give us a brief summary of trafficking awareness.”
Pearl, Unchained is a blog that can be found at pearlunchained.com.
“From a survivor, giving hope to and speaking up for survivors of sex trafficking, child sexually abusive material, sexual and other abuses until they can speak for themselves, honestly and in a faith-based manner,” the introduction found on the “Pearl, Unchained” Facebook page states.
OLR’s fall fundraiser was a Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers tribute.
“It brought in about 160 attendees,” Rumball said. “Of course we always hope to have more each time. Each fundraiser takes about nine months or more to put together.”
She also said organizers have had positive feedback on its entertainers from fundraisers of the past.
“We try to keep community awareness at the top of everyone’s attention,” she said. “Our ministry travels to craft shows, sport shows and anyone who will have us with tees, literature and books as we share our knowledge. If anyone would like to have us come to speak, we are here for you.”
Tickets for the spring fundraiser, which cost $25, can be purchased by calling Rumball at 810-512-8035 or Our Lady on the River Parish office at 810-765-3568. They will also be available at the door.
