As the end of 2024 draws near, people are starting to reflect on the year’s biggest moments. 10 months and 83 million YouTube views later, Katt Williams revealed that there were some things he left on the cutting room floor during his incendiary appearance on Club Shay Shay, hosted by Shannon Sharpe.
The 53-year-old actor was interviewed at New York Magazine’s Vulture Festival, where he was asked about the major moment from this past January. In it, he called out several comedians and actors by name, such as Kevin Hart, Cedric The Entertainer, Steve Harvey, and Rickey Smiley. “I was trying to do something there that hadn’t been done,” he stated.
“I thought that I had figured out the algorithm mathematically and I thought that I could show that. When I wrote it out, I wrote it out to kill the careers of the people that I was talking about. But it was so vicious that I erased all of the knockout blows and just left the jabs so that the comic I’m talking about knows that ‘I know your real story, motherf**ker. Imma tell this, but you know what else I know.'” Watch below.
Given the unfiltered nature of Katt Williams’ Club Shay Shay interview, one can only imagine what else he had to say. He called out Cedric The Entertainer for allegedly stealing one of his jokes. “He thought that I was just a no-name comedian, and that he could take this joke and nobody would know,” Williams said. “The issue was that I had already done this particular joke on BET’s ComicView twice. It had done so well… that they made it part of the commercial […] This is not just a random joke, this is my best joke…it’s my closing joke.”
The Cincinnati-born comedian claimed that Cedric had seen him perform the joke in 1998 at The Comedy Store and gave him props for his stand-up set, only to then use the joke as his closing joke on The Original Kings Of Comedy almost verbatim. Williams also took shots at Chris Tucker, calling him “Epstein Island Chris Tucker” and explaining why he did not appear in any more movies from the Friday series.
“Chris Tucker did not want to be the ‘poster child’ for smoking marijuana like his Smokey character,” he said. “[Chris Tucker] don’t smoke weed like that. He’s in the church. He was Michael Jackson’s best friend… Michael Jackson called him ‘Christmas.’ You ever met a man that gave you a little nickname like that?”
Kevin Hart and Katt Williams exchanged comments over the years, so it wasn’t a shock that the Soul Plane actor caught a jab, as well. Williams labeled him an “industry plant,” which Hart responded to while promoting his Netflix film LIFT.
“Gotta get that anger up outcha champ….It’s honestly sad,” the 45-year-old actor wrote. “There is a moment in the [Lift] trailer where @gugumbatharaw says, ‘They Really Love You’… I now know she’s talking about ‘Katt.'” Watch Katt Williams’ full Club Shay Shay interview above.
