MOVIE
The Atlanta staff writers’ text-message group is named “Team Bolito,” after a mechanical weapon featured in Ridley Scott’s 2013 The Counselor. Glover says the writers became “super-obsessed” with a clip in which Brad Pitt’s character succumbs to the bolito, and they “watched it every day, probably three times a day.” He predicts, “[The Counselor] will probably become a classic.”
BOOK
Future Shock, the 1970 book by futurist Alvin Toffler, is “very pertinent right now,” Glover says. “It talks about how we haven’t, as human beings, studied how adaptable we are to getting information faster and faster . . . . [Toffler] predicted the Internet before the Internet happened.”
TV SHOW
The last series Glover “really, really became obsessed with” was the five-part ESPN documentary O.J.: Made in America. “[The O. J. Simpson] story was like Prince or Michael [Jackson]. The same way we won’t see artists like that again, we’re not going to see a story like that again. [The documentary] was beautifully done and spoke the truth about so many things.”
ACTRESS
Glover explains that he tries not to have role models anymore (“You just get disappointed . . . everybody’s just regular people”), but he greatly admires Sarah Paulson’s work. “She’s amazing. I would love to be as good as her.”
LIVE MUSIC
“The last time I saw someone and thought, This is special, was when I got to see Outkast a bunch. I performed with them in Atlanta and Australia . . . . It was a good time; it just felt like family. I saw André [3000] do a slow-motion push-up.”
CAR ACTIVITIES
When driving, Glover spends part of his commute learning foreign languages: “I try and rotate [language tests] out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday . . . . I’m learning Spanish and French.”
BEYONCÉ SONG
Glover says “Bootylicious” is a favorite (he acknowledges it is technically a Destiny’s Child track, but notes Beyoncé’s runs “make that song”). “It’s such a good one,” he says. “I’m kind of obsessed with wedding after-party songs. Bruno Mars does them really well, too.”
