Ukraine marks 73rd anniversary of liberation from Nazi invaders

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated this in his address to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of liberation of Ukraine from the Nazi invaders, the press service of the Head of State reports.

"Today we celebrate a particularly memorable event: Ukraine was finally liberated from the Nazi invaders as a result of the successful East Carpathian Strategic Offensive on October 28, 1944," Poroshenko stated.

He reminded that about 9 million Ukrainians were killed during the World War II.

"Honoring the winners, we become particularly cognizant of the power of great love for our native land, which makes us invincible," the President added.

In turn, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman noted in his address that the World War II had inflicted unprecedented financial, resource and economic losses, and, most importantly, claimed millions of lives of Ukrainians and representatives of other peoples, the Government portal reports.

"Today we mark the 73rd anniversary of liberation from the Nazi invaders. On October 28, 1944, the military formations of the First and the Fourth Ukrainian Fronts reached the modern border of Ukraine in the area of Uzhgorod city, displacing the last occupying forces from the territory of our country," Groysman stated.
