We engage local communities in UCSF projects and activities, working with decision-makers to incorporate community input into our initiatives. You can find all active projects here.
Government Relations
We serve as UCSF’s liaison to our local, state, and federal elected officials and agencies. We promote UCSF’s research, educational and patient care efforts, and facilitate ways for UCSF to partner with government.
Anchor Institution Mission
UCSF and community partners collaborate to increase the economic security and address social determinants of health for under-resourced local populations through workforce development, procurement, and community investment.
Advocacy
We mobilize our campus communities, connect with lawmakers, and take action to advocate for public policy at the local, state, and federal level to advance UCSF's mission.
Meet the CGR Team
Committed to the Community
We invest in and support our community by sponsoring events, making strategic public benefit investments, providing free health screenings, and promoting activities to encourage health and wellness. In 2022, we:
- Sponsored 14 community fairs in the neighborhoods surrounding our campuses.
- Held 16 community meetings to keep neighbors informed on our capital projects.
- Facilitated the transfer of UCSF land to the San Francisco Unified School District to house a brand new public school in Mission Bay.
- Hosted 5 voter education forums free and open to the public in the lead up to the 2022 Midterm Elections.
Additionally, UCSF has directed over $1.3 million over the past year towards 207 community-based sponsorships that enhance our mission to advance health worldwide.
Community Construction Outreach Program:
The Community Construction Outreach Program (CCOP), UCSF’s local hiring initiative, strives to strengthen economic opportunities, increase local employment, and engage local unions in innovative partnerships.
The UCSF Chinese Dental Students Association attend the Sunset Autumn Moon Festival to show kids how to brush properly.
Our Community Advisory Bodies:
We work closely with campus neighbors, community leaders, and members of the public to solicit and incorporate feedback on UCSF’s capital plans and programmatic investments in the San Francisco Bay Area. UCSF's community advisory bodies are comprised of neighbors, local business owners, advocates, and nonprofit leaders who volunteer their time to advise UCSF's Community & Government Relations work.
