PETALING JAYA: The heartache is over for Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II) captain and midfielder Aysar Hadi Sapri.

Aysar could not contain his delight after his side bagged the MFL Cup for the first time by finishing first in the league.

The Southern Tigers bagged 53 points from 24 games, two points ahead of second-placed Selangor.

They confirmed the title after beating Penang II 4-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on Monday.

The 21-year-old Aysar said it was the best way to banish the pain of last season when Terengganu beat them 0-1 in the MFL Cup final.

JDT II will be the last team to win the cup, as the competition will be defunct from next season onwards.

“It is a fantastic feeling to finally win it. I am proud of the lads for producing a top display to hoist the cup. This is the last final for the MFL Cup and last season, many remembered the hard-hitting defeat against Terengganu,” he said.

“We lost to Terengganu because of my mistake but to now win it, it feels good. It feels like the past is banished and I have moved on from it. This is a turning point in my career.

“This is my way of showing that I am never giving up and always working hard.”

As for the season, Aysar said it wasn’t easy for the club as they went through lots of tough challenges from other clubs but persevered in the end.
