(Video) Speeding car collides with guardrail on Hiram's highway, loses wheel while attempting to stop
Local | 12 Jan 2025 2:49 pmA dashcam video posted on Sunday captured a scene on Hiram's Highway where a private car crashed into the guardrail and subsequently caught fire, with one of its wheels detaching and explosions heard during the incident.
The footage, uploaded online today, reveals that the accident occurred yesterday (Jan 11) around 6 pm near Nam Pin Wai. The car was reportedly speeding when it suddenly lost control.
The out-of-control car initially scraped against the guardrail but was unable to stop, leaving a trail of sparks as one wheel fell off before colliding with the central barrier.
According to two additional clips circulating online, the driver was bleeding after the collision, while the car was left perched on the guardrail with flames erupting from the front.
Several passing drivers stopped to help, opening the car door and urging the driver to leave the burning vehicle.
The driver managed to escape from the car on his own and was taken away from the burning vehicle with the assistance of other drivers.
Police were alerted and arrived at the scene where explosions were reported. The 51-year-old driver, surnamed Leung, was transported to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for medical attention.
The fire department responded promptly, dispatching a breathing apparatus team. The fire was successfully extinguished within approximately half an hour.
