The Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu stated on his social media on Friday, urging the citizens to give their full support to the Hong Kong athletes.

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will kick off on July 27 (Sat), at 1.30 am Hong Kong Time.

Lee wrote on his social media that the 35 Olympic athletes from Hong Kong, China, will compete in 13 events this year, with more than half of the athletes competing in the Olympic Games for the first time.

He described this as a demonstration of the passing of the torch of Hong Kong sports to the next generation, but also shows that new talents are emerging in the field.

Lee said that all athletes will go all out and fully showcase their talents on the international stage and hopes that the Hong Kong team will achieve excellent results.

The Hong Kong leader said the government has secured the television rights for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

These events will be broadcast live on four free-to-air television channels and screened at designated sports centers in all 18 districts, he added.

He hopes that citizens will cheer for Hong Kong's Olympic athletes together so that the Olympic craze will spread throughout Hong Kong and the whole city will become a large cheerleading squad.

The first local athlete to take the stage at the Paris Olympics will be Vivian Kong Man-wai at the Ladies Épée at 4 pm Hong Kong time on July 27 (Sat).
