A 62-year-old woman died Friday morning after fire broke out at a Commerce Township home, trapping her inside, officials said.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 caller reported the fire at a home in the 4000 block of Cara Court at approximately 10 a.m. — and said a person was trapped in an upstairs bedroom.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and removed the woman from the home. She was transported to DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, the sheriff’s office said.

No other injuries were reported.

While an investigation continues, so far it appears the cause of the fire was accidental, the sheriff’s office said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday in Oakland County.
