The group, 100 Women Who Care – Troy, has donated their first quarter funds to Troy Nature Society’s Nature-based Mindfulness and Science Experiences for At-Risk Youth initiative.
The donation of $6,005.21 will go toward a project to offer at-risk students programming designed to benefit their academic curriculum and introduce them to mindfulness practices that support their mental and physical well-being.
The new initiative will annually serve up to 700 at-risk 1st to 5th grade students enrolled in Title One programming, with a series of complimentary programs at Stage Nature Center during three school years. In conjunction with the organization’s educational project managers, mental health care professionals from Henry Ford Health have committed to conducting nature-based mindfulness programming at the center, according to a press release from the City of Troy.
The members of 100 Women Who Care – Troy are local women interested in supporting non-profit charities throughout Troy and Southeast Michigan.
“We invite others to become a part of this powerful group, joining other women who wish to have a positive impact on the lives of those in need,” said Nancy Hauff, 100 Women Who Care Co-Founder. “You do NOT have to be a Troy resident to join! Members nominate non-profits of their choice, presenting details regarding the charity at scheduled meetings.”
The group meets quarterly on the first Thursday in February, May, August, and November, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
