Winning brings with it rewards of its own.

Conference honors and region honors and state honors and national honors.

Over the course of this past winter both Mid Michigan College basketball programs put together banners seasons as the Laker men went 25-6 overall and won their first-ever conference championship by going 13-1 in conference play.

Not to be outdone the Lady Lakers finished seventh nationally at the NJCAA National Championships over the weekend by going 3-1 in the season-finale.  They closed the season at 31-5.  The seventh-place finish is the best finish in program history at the D2 National Championships.  Moreover, the Lady Lakers also won a third-straight conference, state and district title en route to the Big Dance this winter.

In all 15 Lakers were recently honored individually also when the MCCAA and the NJCAA Region 12 announced its honorees for 2024-25 back on March 12.

Both head coaches earned numerous honors as did seven Lady Lakers and six men’s players.

On the men’s side head coach Kaleb House was named MCCAA Northern Conference ‘Coach of the Year’ as he led the Lakers to their first-ever conference championship.  House and company were ranked 14th nationally in the final national rankings this winter and just missed out on qualifying for nationals.

Sophomore star James Wright led the way as he was named Northern Conference ‘Player of the Year’ as he averaged 22.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He finished his two-year run with 1,106 points. He was also named to the All-Region and All-MCCAA squads.

Mt. Pleasant freshman Amanti Greene earned Northern Conference ‘Freshman of the Year’ honors as he averaged 15.4 points per game and shot 38-percent from 3-point range. Greene also earned All-Region and All-MCCAA honors.

Fulton sophomore Joe Iung was named ‘Defensive Player of the Year.’ Iung averaged 9.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 2024-25. He was also named to the All-Defensive team and second-team All-Northern Conference.

Sophomore De’Antre Griffin was named to the All-Region, All-MCCAA and first-team Northern Conference after averaging 17 points and six rebounds per game this winter.

Sophomore Vynce Overshown earned third-team All-Northern Conference honors while Jaden Clark earned honorable mention All-Northern Conference honors.

On the women’s side head coach Lance Maney was named MCCAA ‘Coach of the Year’ and Great Lakes District C ‘Coach of the Year’ as he led the Lady Lakers to a third-straight conference and state title before going 3-1 at the National Championships en route to a seventh-place finish nationally. The Lady Lakers were ranked 13th nationally in the final regular-season rankings.

Sophomore guards Chloe Watson and Rachel Resio both earned first-team All-MCCAA honors as well as All-Region honors and first-team All-Northern Conference honors. Watson averaged 17 points, six boards and four assists while Resio poured in 16 points per game to go along with three boards and four assists. Resio was also named to the ‘All-Defensive team.”

McBain sophomore Paige Ebels earned second-team All-Northern Conference honors and was named to the ‘All-Defensive team.’ She averaged 10 points and three rebounds per game this winter.

Jiarytou Cisse, Addysen Gray, Alexus Dunn and Delaney Seaman all earned honorable mention All-Conference honors also for MMC.
