They’re going to the National Championships, again.

The Mid Michigan College women’s basketball team secured a spot in the 2025 NJCAA Division II National Championships last weekend by winning the Great Lakes District title from the campus of Mott Community College in Flint.

The Lakers, who are ranked 13th nationally, defeated 18th-ranked Macomb Community College by a final of 62-56 Sunday to earn an automatic bid into the 20-team NJCAA National Championships.

Mid Michigan College (28-4) is seeded 10th in the National Championships and will take on seventh-seeded Lake Lake Community College (Ill.) at 7 p.m. on March 18 from the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center on the campus of Missouri Southern University in Joplin, Missouri.

Lake Land Community College is ranked seventh nationally and comes in with a record of 26-7 after losing to fourth-ranked Lincoln Land Community College is a regional final last weekend. Lake Land earned one of four at-large bids into the National Championships.

One season ago Lance Maney and the MMC Lakers went 1-2 in the National Championships and bowed out in the ‘Sweet 16.’

This year they want more, much more.

“It’s incredible what we have accomplished the last three years,” said Mid Michigan College head coach Lance Maney. “This year we won’t be satisfied with just going, we want to put together a run.”

Maney has led the Lakers to three-straight conference titles and three-straight MCCAA state championships in the last three seasons. Moreover, they will also be competing in their third-straight National Championship.

The Mid Michigan College men’s basketball program also had a banner 2024-25 as it won its first-ever conference title. The Lakers finished the season ranked 14th-nationally, yet just missed out on qualifying for Nationals after falling to ninth-ranked Macomb Community College 73-65 in a district final.
