Woodburn has piled pressure on Klopp: Rush.

BEN Woodburn has piled the pressure on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to include the 17-year-old in his Premier League plans this season after his sublime strike reignited Wales' 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign on Saturday night. That's the belief of Wales and Liverpool legend Ian Rush after watching teen tyro Woodburn come off the bench at the Cardiff City Stadium to score a brilliant winner for Chris Coleman's side against Austria just four minutes into his international debut.

Having worked with the youngster with Wales and at Anfield, Rush believes Woodburn's goal at the Cardiff City Stadium has heaped pressure on Reds boss Klopp to push the teen tyro into his Premier League starting line-up at Liverpool despite an embarrassment of attacking riches.

"I know Jurgen Klopp loves him and he's given Ben time to develop," Rush told Radio Five Live.

"But that goal on Saturday night has now sent him onto a different level to tell you the truth, and he's putting pressure on Liverpool as well now to play him.

"That's what it's all about competition for places.

"Playing alongside Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale I think he's now realising what the world's all about.

"He's the youngest player ever to score for Liverpool beating Michael Owen's record and now he's scored for Wales and he's taken it onto a different level.

"It was an excellent goal and he did really well after coming on."

When he became the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool's history last November against Leeds in the EFL Cup it reignited speculation England would try to lure him into their set-up.

But Rush, who worked with Woodburn in Wales' youth setup, was convinced he would not change countries.

"He keeps his feet firmly on the ground and I know England were after him for a couple of years as well and he could have played for them," he said.

"But he's so passionate about being Welsh and Chris Coleman gave him a chance on Saturday night and he came up trumps.

"He came on taken his chance and now he's got to be patient again because this didn't happen overnight.

"Now's he's got to realise he probably won't start on Tuesday night against Moldova and he's got to keep his feet on the ground."
