Welcome to the Jungle.
New-product preview for the 2001 International Builders' Show.BEFORE TREKKING THE HALF-MILLION square feet of exhibits and seminars at this year's International Builders' Show, take a quick peek at some of the latest and greatest products that exhibitors will introduce.
Held in anew location and a month later than past shows, the industry's biggest event will run from Feb. 9-12 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. With over 1,000 exhibitors, it's easy to become overwhelmed by the vast array of new-product introductions, so to calm your nerves and focus your thoughts, we've high-lighted a few interesting items. Among them are Georgia-Pacific's speciality siding, Makita's 24-volt tool series, and Armstrong's new Enhancements line. Hold onto your hats and take a whirlwind look at a handful of new products appearing at this year's show.
TOUGH STUFF: The Enhancements line of ToughGuard flooring is priced to fill the gap between the company's existing entry-level line, Initiator, and the next step up, Memories. ToughGuard flooring is guaranteed not to rip, tear, or gouge under normal household use, reducing the number of callbacks.
WIND PROOF: The Carvedwood2 series of premium vinyl siding features the [T.sup.2]Lok design, a 5/8-inch butt height for added rigidity, and a rolled-over nail hem for 160-mph wind resistance. The siding is offered with a cedar or brushed finish and is available in 13 colors and four profiles.
SIDE EFFECTS: New World Scallops specialty siding panels feature a lightly embossed wood grain and little seam overlap to give the appearance of real wood siding. The panels are made with thick, injection-molded polypropylene. Installer-friendly features include interlocking fingers and integral side interlocks, a side lock-down flange, overlapping installation holes, and a center-lacking hole.
CLASSICALLY DESIGNED: The Wood Ultimate Double Hung window features a frame constructed for maximum stability and a solid wood exterior that meets most historic restoration criteria. The traditionally thick vinyl jamb liner has been replaced with a wood interior that can be painted to match the decor. The window features a unique tilt lever that's integrated into the lower sash lock and upper sash tilt latches for easier maneuvering.
ALL IN ONE:
Infinity composite doors feature elegant raised panels and decorative raised molding. The patented manufacturing is unique, because the door slab is a single piece rather than individual stile and rail parts, eliminating the chance for stile and rail separation, shrinking, or splitting. Over 20 styles are available.
SHAKE IT UP: Winstead cabinetry features Shaker styling with overlay doors, solid wood-face frames, and fully concealed, self-closing hinges. The cabinets can be built in any one of the company's three construction methods: standard, select, and ply select. They're available in finishes of alpine, natural (shown), autumn, and rouge.
BATTERIES ARE INCLUDED:
The new Maximum line of 24-volt cordless tools comes in eight models, including a 1/2-inch driver/drill, a 1/2-inch hammer driver/drill, a 7 1/2-inch slide compound miter saw, and a 7 1/4- inch circular saw. The tools use nickel metal hydride batteries that are 3 amp hours or 1.7 amp hours. The batteries have a built-in memory chip that records the history of each cell to minimize overcharging.
OUT OF SIGHT: The Entry Point Retractable Screen is an invisible screen door that retracts when not in use, allowing for a clear, unobstructed view. According to the company, the screen can be installed quickly to in-swing patio, entry, and double doors. The screen is slam-proof.
HOLD ON: This contoured vinyl railing features a sculptured appearance and a comfortable grip, providing safety without sacrificing the look. The railings come in a small and large profile in white, tan, or gray. They're made of high-impact, weather-resistant polyvinyl chloride that won't rot, rust, or corrode, the maker says.
FINE FIXTURES: Versailles lighting fixtures have a refined look and intricate details. Lighting accents include ivory candle caps, pleated fabric shades, crystal bobeches and balls, and a beaded chain. The design is available on chandeliers, a 15-light foyer fixture, a two-light wall sconce, and in bath and vanity models. The fixtures have a dual finish of burnished brass with golden umber accents.
