vol·ta·ic cell

(vŏl-tā′ĭk)
A device that produces an electric current by means of an irreversible chemical reaction that causes ions to form at one electrode and flow toward another electrode. The electrodes are made of different metals and are immersed in a reactive solution of electrolytes. Car batteries are voltaic cells. Compare electrolytic cell.

They say it could also be powered by a voltaic cell sustained by acidic fluids in the stomach, using technology that Nadeau and Chandrakasan have previously developed.
It consists of a number of voltaic cells; each voltaic cell consists of two half-cells connected in series by a conductive electrolyte containing anions and cations.
Recently our research group introduced a rechargeable battery and voltaic cell using protein for the storage of electricity [11].
This experiment resulted in an electric current that was known as the Voltaic cell, the first wet-cell battery.
Using simple materials, your students can create their own wet cell based on that first voltaic cell. For more battery-related lessons, go to the Web site of the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation, at http://www.rbrc.org/school/educate _nicd.htm.
