The museum needs to raise pounds 400,000 by March for the painting, Kinchinjunga from Darjeeling (1877).

Lear arrived in Darjeeling in January 1874 and decided that Lord Aberdare's painting should be a view of Mount Kinchinjunga at 28,146 feet high one of the highest peaks in the Himalayas.

Kinchinjunga from Darjeeling is on display at the museum's exhibition, Victorian Dreamers: Welsh Collections of the 19th Century Art, which runs until January 8.
