Jan May·en Island

 (yän mī′ən)
An island of Norway in the Greenland Sea between northern Norway and Greenland. Discovered by Henry Hudson in 1607, it was annexed by Norway in 1929.

On 18 June 1942, the SKL directed that Admiral Arctic be responsible for the conduct of U-boat warfare against enemy traffic and escorts in the area east of the Denmark Strait and Jan Mayen Island.
