Amazon River
The second-longest river in the world and the one with the greatest volume of water, flowing about 6,600 km (4,100 mi) from Peru across northern Brazil to a delta on the Atlantic Ocean. Much of the Amazon basin consists of tropical rain forest that is home to numerous indigenous cultures and supports many rare plant and animal species.
