JLR plots Wolverhampton expansion to boost EV manufacturing

JLR electric vehicle

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has submitted plans to extend its Wolverhampton manufacturing site, to support its electrification strategy.

It’s seeking to demolish an existing 13,000 sq ft canopy and replace it with a 70,000 sq ft extension, set to be used for active parts set down to support the manufacture of electric drive units and battery packs.

JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre (EPMC) at i54 currently has 1,700 staff producing internal combustion engines. However, EPMC will now also produce electric drive units and battery packs for JLR’s next-generation vehicles.

The extension supports the luxury car manufacturer’s Reimagine strategy, aiming to provide all-electric derivatives of all JLR nameplates by the end of the decade.

It also supports JLR’s target to be carbon net zero across supply chains, products and operations by 2039.
