Hello everyone!

It’s time to celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday and his legacy. He was man of nonviolence, but when he spoke, he had our attention. His most talked about speech was “I have a dream” delivered in Washington D.C. August 28, 1963. His last speech, “I’ve been to the mountain top!” was in Memphis, TN April 4, 1968.

Let’s celebrate his life and legacy!

***** Observances for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Day include a scholarship program and parade.

The annual MLK Scholarship Program will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at Scott Chapel Methodist Church, 420 Highway Avenue South, Blackshear. All are welcome to come. Thank you in advance.

The parade will be Monday, January 20. Starting point will be at the Board of Education and ending at the Lee Street Resource Center. We are asking all participants to be there at 9:15 a. m. Starting time will be at 10 a. m. Isaac Moses is the chairman of the MLK committee.

Let’s make it another great celebration for Dr. King. The committee would like for everyone to take part in this celebration.

Sunday, January 19, at Scott Chapel united Methodist Church, 420 Highway Ave. Blackshear. Dr. Dargenae’ N. Patterson is the pastor. ***** Session Hill Community Center will have its 50 States program at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at 3105 Allen Ave. in Blackshear. Thank you for your support. ***** The Gates, the Gathering Place, will host Worship 1:20 The Experience, Praise, Prophecy, Power January 19 and 26.

Worship services will be at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 and Sunday, Jan. 26, with lunch to follow at 2:30 p.m.

The Rev. Charles Vaughn, Minister Tiffany McCaster and Minister Patty Collins and Recording Artist Dr. Deborah Brown will be featured.

KidzZone and Empowerment will be available for ages pre-school to elementary.

Free food box and care packets will be distributed Sunday, Jan. 19 and every third Sunday.

Volunteers are needed for hospitality, KidzZone, media, photography and set up.

The Gates is located at 6014 Homestead Road, Blackshear.

Everyone is invited! ***** Lee Street Music Academy will hold an after school program. “The Drumline and Marching Band fever hits Pierce and Ware Counties for all youth from ages five-19. All will learn performance skills to perform in parades, on drumline, dance and brass instruments.

Rehearsals are held from 3-4:30 p.m. every first Saturday at Lee Street Resource Center, 623 Sycamore Street, Blackshear. Call to register! Space is limited.
