Routt County runners recorded two top-10 finishes including a state championship title at the Colorado High School Activities Association Cross Country State Championships at Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs on Saturday.

Steamboat Springs senior Xavier Knott took home the state title for the third time in his cross country career with a blazing fast time of 4 minutes, 44 seconds in the Unified race.

The Unified race was originally mapped out as a 2.75-kilometer race, but a last-minute change shortened the course substantially to an unclear distance. Knott won the race nearly a full 30 seconds ahead of the second-place runner in the race.

Joining Knott in the top-10 from Routt is Soroco’s Nick Clark, whose dominant season led him to a ninth-place finish in the 2A Boys race on Saturday. Clark raced among 144 runners, completing the 5-kilometer race in 16:57, one minute off the time of the race leader.

Representing Soroco in the 2A Girls race was Lupita Jaconetta, who took 28th in a field of 131 runners. Jaconetta crossed the finish in 21:56, just under three minutes behind the state champion.

Steamboat senior Asher Rowan took on the 4A Boys race, where he managed a 76th-place finish in a crowd of 156 runners. He ran a 17:25 time.

Steamboat head coach Lisa Renee Tumminello said Routt County was well-represented at the race with a large number of teammates, alumni and family members who came to cheer on the four runners.
