Australia, Uzbekistan land next two Women’s Asian Cups

Australia and Uzbekistan were today (Wednesday) named hosts of the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Asian Cup in 2026 and 2029, respectively.

Australia, co-hosts of last year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup with New Zealand, will host the continent’s premier women’s national team competition for the second time in history, after 2006, while Uzbekistan will become the first Central Asian nation to organise the tournament.

Uzbekistan will stage the 2029 edition after dropping its bid for 2026 in February. Saudi Arabia also pulled out of the race at the same stage, while Jordan had been an earlier contender for 2026.

India hosted the last AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2022, while Jordan staged the event in 2018.

The host country recommendations of the AFC Women’s Football Committee were ratified by the AFC executive committee, which met in Bangkok, Thailand, on the eve of the AFC Congress.
