Currently, SMPTE has 26 local sections worldwide, which host more than 200 meetings, tutorials, and workshops each year.

Section Resources

Sections

Sections are the face of SMPTE to many of our members. They are a great resource for educational programming, technical expertise, and networking. Upon joining SMPTE, new members are placed in a Section based on geographic location.  

Each Section elects officers who plan local technical programs, allowing each Section to tailor the programming to the local audience and available resources.

Interested in Starting a Section in your area?

Any group of at least 50 members from one area may petition the Society's Board of Governors to form a new Section. Simply gather the names of 50 members, submit the petition, and we will begin the process of establishing a new section. For further information or to start a petition, contact [email protected]. 

Are you currently a student?

SMPTE Student Chapters provide students with the opportunity to meet industry leaders and professionals, and to interact outside of the classroom with other students and faculty who have an interest in the motion imaging industry. The current Student Chapters and their advisors are listed here.
