SEE Vision Care

SEE Vision Care (SVC), previously known as Santa Barbara Vision Care (SBVC), is a program dedicated to providing eyecare to individuals who may not otherwise have access to these services in our local community.

The services we provide at these locations include eyecare screenings, comprehensive eye exams, and prescription glasses at no cost to the patient. Any necessary follow-up care, including surgeries, is based on eligibility requirements.

Eyecare Needs in the Community

SEE established the SEE Vision Care program in the mid-1980s. The need for free, comprehensive eyecare in our community was pressing then and has only increased with time. In addressing that need, we have provided essential eyecare services to over 75,000 members of our community.

Patients often find themselves having no choice but to deprioritize their own vision care. This is particularly true of individuals with inadequate or no access to healthcare services, forcing them to pick and choose what treatment they receive. SEE has responded to this increased need by seeking out opportunities to expand the range of care we provide, specifically to individuals we have not been able to help in the past.

Who Does SEE Vision Care Serve?

SEE’s mission is predicated on caring for underserved and often uninsured individuals. SEE Vision Care primarily treats children and adults, many of whom do not qualify for federal or state funded programs such as Medicare, Medi-Cal or Healthy Families.

In 2021, our patients were: 86% Hispanic, 7% Caucasian, 1% Asian, 1% African American, 0.1% Native American and 4.9% other, while nearly 80% earned less than $30,000 per year.
