Studio layout and operation

Set up log tape Set microphones to pre fade listen Monitor off tuner Check the output of the microphones
This is what a studio layout looks like.

Recording and format playbacks

This is the process that is also known as record or recording. Capturing data or translating information to a recording system. Different playback formats include, MP3, WAV, Audio CD and MP4.

File transfer
File transfer is a term for the act of transmitting files over the Internet. There are numerous ways to transfer files over a network. The data transfer is called uploading or downloading. There are 2 types of file transfers: Pull-based file transfers Push-based file transfers

Transfer bays
Transmitting files from one computer to another via the internet. This is file backup.

Linear recording systems

Post productive process Selecting, arranging and modifying sounds in an ordered sequence. Non-Compressed audio format such as 16bit 44.1KHz is considered linear in format. There are higher bit and sample rates.

Non-linear recording systems

Digital recording allows any parts of the recording to be replayed in any order without any gaps. The material can be played back in any order, the order that it has been recorded in does not matter. Compressed audio format such as MP3/AAC/MP4.

Advantages of linear
It means that the product is put together without the necessity of editing. Fairley inexpensive to manufacture

Disadvantages of linear
Large transformers required. High cost Difficult to design

Advantages of non-linear
Simple Cheap Editing is better

Disadvantages of non linear

Difficult to maintain and manipulate. They do not provide sequential access. takes up more memory as compared to linear data. Takes longer to complete.

ISDN
integrated service digital network
A way of sending voice, video or data over digital and normal telephone wires.

ISDN
What type of network do I need? What wireless networking standard do I use?

Delay lines
Form of computer memory Serial access

Profanity and blasphemy

Profanity is a show of disrespect. Profanity is used with controversy The use of profanity has increased over the last couple of years. Blasphemy is used to show insults of god Audio in the film last tango show signs of blasphemy.

Effects
Several effects are used in audio production, including; Phase Flange Distortion Altering sounds help them to sound more professional, by using products such as compression and EQ this can be done.

Sequences
Sequence of audio that are edited together to make a professional piece of audio.

Logic pro
Digital audio workstation Music production suite by apple Write, record, edit, mix, plug-ins and sounds.

Pro tools
Audio workstation for Microsoft windows and Mac. Similar to a multi track tape recorder and mixer.

Production stages and processes

The actual shooting/recording. In music, production usually refers to the creative direction of a project. Unlike a film producer who is more of a manager, a music producer has a very hands-on role in the creative development.

Post production stages and processes

Editing the soundtrack, adding sound effects, music, etc. Adding special effects Re-recording certain audio if required (distorted audio) In some cases post-production is relatively straightforward, consisting of choosing and arranging audio in the correct sequence. In most cases however, post-production is a timeconsuming job taking longer than the actual production phase

Production roles
Sound engineer Producer Artistic director Musical director Technical director
