Presentation ON: Testing of Equipments in Switchyard

This document provides an overview of equipment testing at the Thermal Power Plant in Talwandi Sabo, India. It discusses the main parts of the plant including the switchyard, boiler, cooling tower, turbines, and coal handling equipment. It then focuses on the switchyard equipment tested, such as current transformers, capacitor voltage transformers, isolators, circuit breakers, and insulators. The document outlines the testing done on this equipment and describes the testing equipment used, including megger devices, current leakage testers, clamp meters, multimeters, and high voltage transformers.

Switchyard
Switchyard is the place where electrical power is supplied to the plant from the outside, and electrical power is sent from the plant.

Boiler
A Boiler or steam generator essentially is a container into which water can be fed and steam can be taken out at desired pressure, temperature and flow. This calls for

Cooling Tower
The cooling tower is a semienclosed device for evaporative cooling of water by contact with air. The hot water coming out from the condenser is fed to the tower on the top and allowed to tickle in form of thin sheets or drops. The air flows from bottom of the tower or perpendicular to the direction of water flow and then exhausts to the atmosphere after effective cooling.

Earthing Switch
Earthing switch is like a switch which makes the contact of bus bar and ground to transfer extra supply to the earth. It is also known as a earthing device.

Isolator
Inelectrical engineering, adisconnectororis olator switchis used to make sure that an electrical circuit can be completely deenergized for service or maintenance.

Megger
The registered trade name of a high-voltage, high-range ohmmeter. It has a built-in, handoperated generator for providing the voltage needed to measure the electrical continuity, the insulation resistance, and the resistance between a component and an electrical ground.
