Management is a universal phenomenon that directs group efforts towards predetermined goals. It can be defined as a process, activity, discipline, group, science, art, or profession. As a profession, management requires specialized knowledge, formal training and experience, a professional association to regulate members and promote ethical standards, and priority of service over economic interests. However, management is not fully considered a profession because entry into management jobs is not restricted by standardized qualifications, minimum qualifications for managers are not prescribed, and competent education and training facilities do not universally exist for the profession. Managers are often judged based on their performance rather than degrees or certifications alone.

Managementis a universal phenomenon. It is an art of creating an environment in which people can perform and individuals and can co-operate towards attainment of group goals According toF.W. Taylor, Management is an art of knowing what to do, when to do and see that it is done in the best and cheapest way. Management is a purposive activity.
