Data Mining & Visualization: Submitted By: Anubhooti Gupta 08PG0347

Data mining is the process of analyzing data from different perspectives to discover useful patterns and relationships. It uses techniques from statistics, artificial intelligence, and database management. The goals of data mining include explanation, confirmation, and exploration of data. Data mining works by analyzing relationships and patterns in stored transaction data based on open-ended user queries. Data visualization represents data graphically to help humans understand the information. Common techniques include charts, graphs, plots, maps, 3D surfaces, and animation.

DATA MINING & VISUALIZATION

SUBMITTED BY: ANUBHOOTI GUPTA 08PG0347

DATA MINING
It is the process of analyzing data from different perspective and summarizing it into useful information. It is knowledge discovery using a sophisticated blend of techniques from traditional statistics, artificial intelligence and computer graphics. Technically it is the process of finding correlation or patterns among dozens of fields in large relational database.

GOALS OF DATA MINING

EXPLANATORY: To explain some observed event or condition. CONFIRMATORY: To confirm a hypothesis. EXPLORATORY: To analyze data for new or unexpected relationship.

HOW DOES DATA MINING WORK?

While large scale information has been evolving separate transaction and analytical systems ,data mining provides the link between the two. Data mining software analyses relationships and patterns in stored transaction data based on open ended user queries. 4 types of relationship are sought: 1.Classes 2.Clusters 3.Association 4.Sequential patterns

Data mining consist of 5 major elements

Extract ,transform and load transaction data onto the data warehouse system. Store and manage the data in a multidimensional database system. Analyze the data by application software. Present the data in a useful format ,such as a graph or table. Provide data access to business analyst and information technology professionals.

Different levels of analysis are available:

Decision tree:-represent sets of decision. e.g. Classification and regression trees(CART) Chi square automatic interaction detection (CHAID) Rule induction:-Extraction of useful if then rules from data based on statistical significance. Case based reasoning:-derives rules from real world case examples. Clustering &signal processing:-Discover subgroups and segment.

DATA VISUALIZATION
It is the representation of data in graphical and multimedia formats for human analysis. It is the graphical presentation of information, with the goal of providing the viewer with a qualitative understanding of the information contents. Graphical presentation may includess manipulation of graphical entities( points, lines, shapes, images, text) and attributes(color, size, position, shape). It is used in conjunction with data mining and analytical techniques.

What makes a good visualization?

Effective :the viewer gets it(ease of interpretation) Accurate: sufficient for correct quantitative evaluation. Adaptable: can adjust to severe multiple needs.

COMMON TECHNIQUES
Charts : bar or pie Graphs :relationships Plots: 1 to n dimensional Maps: Images 3-D surfaces and solids Animation

MIND MAPS: comprehensive way of presenting 200 successful websites on the web ordered by catogery, popularity.

DISPLAYING DATA: collects the information from AMAZON &presents it in the form of keyword you have provided. To select, simply click on it.

DISPLAYING NEWS: application that reflects the constantly changing landscape of the google news.

Three views of earth , in which each country is represented by a circle that shows the amount of money on the military & what fraction of the country earning that uses.

It lets u explore the behavior of your visitors with a heat map, which are clicked more often are highlighted as warm-red color
