Data Processing
Data
► The term “Data” refers to any basic fact that can be
input into a processing system.
Data processing
► is a process of converting raw facts or data into a meaningful
information. Its goal is to transform data into information.

Information
► The processed data that has been, organized, structured
and given context to make it meaningful and useful
6 Stages of Data Processing:

1. Collection
► Collection of data refers to gathering of data.
The data gathered should be defined and
accurate.
2. Preparation
► is a process of formulating a set of data from
different sources for future use in processing
cycle.

 refers to collection of data for processing. It
can be fed into computer through any of
input devices like keyboard, scanner, mouse,
etc.
4. Processing
Processing refers to the actual execution of
instructions. In this stage, raw facts or data is
converted to meaningful information.

5.Output and Interpretation


► In this process, output is displayed to user in
form of text, audio, video, etc. Interpretation
of output provides meaningful information to
user.
6. Storage
► This is where data, instruction and
information are stored in permanent memory
for future reference.
►Data can be collected and processed

technology to produce meaningful
information. Processing involves the use
of software. One of the most common
types of application software which
involves data processing is the Word
Processor.
Word Processor
►is the most growing program on
computers. It is a software for creating,
editing, and printing documents for
users. It helps you to write text, save it
electronically, display it on the screen,
change it by entering keyboard
Commands and characters, and print it
out.
7 Basic Features of the Word Processor

1. Text manipulation
► refers to the ability to change the appearance of
words, sentences and paragraphs that have been
typed.
► Ex. Changing the case (CAPITAL letter)
2. Document formatting
► format the actual appearance of text on how they will
appear. It helps in improving the readability of the
document.
► Ex. Formatting words such as Bold, Italic, Underline,
font style, font size and font color.

3. Graphics
► Pictures, images or charts can be added to the
document to make it more appealing.
4. Tabs
► used instead of the spacebar in jumping from one
exact position to the other. This can be done by
setting up the tab keys on the keyboard.
5. Tables
► use in presenting data in an organized and easy to
read format.

6. Mail Merge and Label Printing


►use a template and data files and create
multiple copies.

7. Other features
►includes: spell check, grammar check,
thesaurus, review and track and pre-
created documents.
Microsoft Word

►is the most commonly used word


processing application software. It helps
in arranging written text in a proper
format and giving it a systematic look.
►This application allows you to create
documents such as letters, resumes,
and more.
