Self Purification

The document outlines the steps for calculating the self-purification process of rivers, focusing on parameters such as temperature, BOD, and DO. It includes specific calculations for DO saturation concentration, initial DO deficit, ultimate BOD, and reoxygenation and deoxygenation coefficients. Additionally, it provides a method to determine the distance over which these processes occur at various distances from a pollution source.

Self Purification of

Rivers
DO Sag Curve
Solution Steps
1. Calculate Temperature, BOD & DO of mix
2. At temperature of mix, estimate DO saturation concentration
3. Calculate initial DO deficit (Do) at mix temperature
4. Calculate Ultimate BOD (Lo)
5. Calculate Reoxigenation & Deoxygenation Coeffs at mix temp
6. Calculate Tc , Dc and distance at which it will occur
7. Calculate Dc at 20 km, 40 km,80km & 100 km
