Background & Problem

• Fire is one of the unavoidable disasters that can happen naturally or as

a result of human activity.
• Common causes include human carelessness, dry weather, and
extreme heat.
• Although catastrophic, fire events can be avoided with early risk
detection.
Project Overview

• Created a smoke and fire detection system based on the Internet of

Things using:
• The microcontroller ESP32
• Flame and gas sensors
• LED modules in red and green
• The buzzer
• Using a breadboard and connectors
Project Features

• Detection of smoke, fire and gasses that are flammables

• Storing the sensor data to a real-time database for real-time monitoring
and analysis
• To facilitate real-time alerts as well as faster localized alerts.
• Prevent losses from fire in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Provide a scalable, dependable, and portable fire detection system.
INTRODUCTION
• Events such as the Australian bushfires in 2019–20 highlight the critical necessity for early fire detection technologies.
• Using IoT technology, the project seeks to reduce the risks associated with fire in residential and commercial locations.
• Real-time warnings are lacking in traditional systems, particularly when users are not present. IoT with cloud
connection addresses this issue.
• To identify danger and send out instant notifications, the system makes use of Firebase, ESP32, and gas/flame sensors.
• It is perfect for outdoor, commercial, and domestic use because it is portable, adaptable, and runs on tiny batteries.
• Sprinkler systems and cloud predictions powered by AI are examples of future improvements for more intelligent fire
prevention.

RELATED WORK
• K. Prathaban (2022): Using an ESP32 with temperature, humidity, smoke, and flame sensors, he
created an Internet of Things-based fire detector that can send email notifications, primarily for high-
rise structures.
• Lab (2024): Used an ESP32 to monitor and deliver real-time email notifications to pre-specified
recipients as part of an infrared-based fire detection system.
• Navodit Bhardwaj (2024): Presented a framework based on the CSA-IoT Matter protocol with the
goal of enhancing accuracy, real-time analysis, and early identification.
• Mehtab Khan (2025): Developed a smart fire detection system that reduces false positives by
combining machine learning and image processing to identify smoke or flames through thermal video
analysis.
Literature Gaps

• lacked cloud-based real-time connectivity (e.g., AWS IoT, Firebase).

• Limited to certain buildings or businesses; poor scalability.
• encountered problems with integration (e.g., no support for central
monitoring or sprinklers).
• High power consumption makes it unsuitable for battery-operated,
portable devices.

Functional requirements:
• Use sensors to detect smoke and fire
• Send data to the Firebase Realtime Database
• Set off buzzer and LED local alarms
• Notify users by email in real time.
