Introduction to Autocad

Autocad is a commercial Computer Aided

Design (CAD) and drafting software
application. Developed and marketed by
Autodesk.
Autocad is used across a wide range of
industries, by architects, project managers,
engineers, graphic designer and many other
professionals.
Autocad Screen Overview
Line drawing methods

Absolute methods
Relative methods
Polar method
Dimensional method

Most used line drawing methods are

dimensional method and polar method.

Types of selection of objects

Left to right
Right to left
Types of Polygon

Types of polygon:-
1. Inscribe in circle:-
The polygon formed will be drawn inside the
circle. This command is used when we want
to create any polygon with its vertices or
corners touching the circle. The shortcut key
for inscribing is I.
2. circumscribe about circle:-
The polygon formed will be drawn outside the
circle. The shortcut key for surcumscribing is
c.
Types of arc

 3 point arc
 Start, center, end
 Start, center, angle
 Start, center, length
 Start, end, angle
 Start, end, direction
 Start, end, radius
 Center, start, end
 Center, start, angle
 Center, start, length
 Continue

 Most used types of arcs are start, center, end and start,
end, radius.
Offset, trim and extend

Offset:-
Create a duplicate object parallel with the
original object.
Trim:-
With the trim option, the objects can be
shortened or lengthened with the edges of
other objects.
Extend:-
With the extend option, you can shorten or
lengthen objects to meet the edges of other
objects.
Move, rotate, copy and array

 Move:-
 Move tool is used, to move one or more objects.
 Rotate:-
 Rotate tool is used, to rotate objects with an absolute
or relative angle. When using an absolute angle ,
specify the base point and then specify the rotation
angle.
 Copy:-
 Copy tool is used, to copy one or more objects.
 Array:-
 Array tool is used, to create copies, of objects in a
rectangular or polar pattern. It is used , especially,
when you need to, duplicate several objects, at the
same distance from each other.
Fillet, chamfer, join and explode

 Fillet:-
 Fillet tool is used, to connect two objects with an arc, with
a specified radius.
 Chamfer:-
 Chamfer is almost identical, but it will make a straight line
instead of arc.
 Join:-
 Join tool is used, to combine similar objects into one single
object. The object you want to join, is called source object
and the objects you want to join, have to be located in the
same plane.
 Explode:-
 Polylines, hatches or blocks can be converted into
individual elements with the explode tool. If you explode a
polyline, every segment will become a separate line.
Dimension scale

Scale tool is used, to scale an object, you

have to specify a base point and a length,
which will give you a scale factor. It is also
possible, to scale an object, using a reference
object. This method scales the object equally
in all directions.
Types of text editing in Autocad

1. Multi line text:- For longer notes and labels

with internal formatting, use multi line text.
2. Single line text:- For short notes and
labels, use single line text.
Introduction to Solidworks

Solidworks is a solid modelling computer

aided design (CAD) and computer aided
engineering (CAE) computer program that
runs on Microsoft windows.
Solidworks is published by Dassault Systems.
Solidworks interface
Solidworks shortcut keys

ctrl +b – rebuilt
ctrl +8 – normal to plane
g enter – magnifying glass
ctrl+1 – front line plane
ctrl+3 – right plane
ctrl+5 – top plane
ctrl+7 – isometric plane
l enter – line tool
Types of line, rectangle, circle and arc
 Types of line:-
 Line
 Center line
 Mid point line

 Types of rectangle:-
 Corner rectangle
 Center rectangle
 3 point corner rectangle
 3 point center rectangle

 Types of circle:-
 Circle
 Perimeter circle

 Types of arc:-
 Center point arc
 Tangent arc
 3 point arc
Types of slots, dimensions and sketch
 Types of slots:-
 Straight slots
 Center point straight slots
 3 point arc slots
 Center point arc slots

 Types of dimensions:-
 MKS
 CGS
 MMGS
 IPS

 Types of sketch:-
 Fully defined sketch
 Under defined sketch
 Over defined sketch
Types of trim

Power trim
Corner trim
Trim away inside
Trim away outside
Trim to closest
Move, rotate and mirror entities

Move entities is used to move, sketch entities

and annotations.

The rotate tool will allow the selected faces

to be rotated about a specific axis. The rotate
tool can be used, to add draft or change in
the orientation of the specific faces.

Mirror entities is used, to mirrors selected

entities about a center or planer reference.
Types of extrude

Blind
Offset from surface
Upto next
Upto surface
Upto vertex
Upto body
Threw all
Extrude cut and revolve

To create an extruded cut from feature,

create a sketch for the feature and then
choose the extruded cut tool from the feature
toolbar.

The sketch, that have until now, can be also

converted, into feature base, by revolving,
using the revolved boss tool. The revolved
drawing and dimensions, close the sketch and
convert it, a fully defined sketch.
Part assembly

Insert component:-
Select the component, from the open dialogue
box. You are again prompted, to select a point, in
the assembly view, to place the component.
Select the point, anywhere, in the drawing area,
to place the second component. Similarly, place
the remain components, in the assembly.

Mats:-
In solidworks, the mats can be applied, using the
mat property manager. Select the mat tool from
tool, available in the assembly toolbar or select
insert, then, select a mat from the menu bar.
