SCIENTIFIC MODELS:
Definition
Forms
Purpose
and Limitations
SCIENTIFIC MODELS
MODELS -are representation of an idea,
object, or event that is used to understand
phenomena that cannot be experienced
directly or explain even those that cannot
be detected or seen easily.
- used to describe & explain the natural
world based on the available information
about them
- represents a part of an object or a
SCIENTIFIC MODELS
SCIENTIFIC MODELS -are only
representations of the actual objects
presented
- can take the forms of a drawing, a
prototype, a diagram, a physical
entities
- represents sets of scientific ideas
- scientists developed models to
visualize & explain phenomena in
3 TYPES OF SCIENTIFIC MODELS
1. PHYSICAL MODELS - can be used to
predict changes similar to what
actually happens in real life
- in form of tangible objects
- shows how the different parts
interact in relation to their functions
PHYSICAL MODELS

2. MATHEMATICAL MODELS - makes use
of numbers, equations and other
quantitative data.
COMPUTER MODEL are created
using software
- Used to describe & predict ocean
current & weather patterns

3. CONCEPTUAL MODELS/ IDEA MODELS
-represents ideas, behavior, and
comparisons
- several concepts in Science make
use of these models so that you will
have a very clear understanding
of the world around you
- Represent concepts or ideas to
describe natural world.
CONCEPTUAL MODELS
SCIENTIFIC MODELS
PURPOSE OF SCIENTIFIC
MODELS:
Scientific models are used to explain
and predict the behaviour of real
objects or systems and are used in a
variety of scientific disciplines, ranging
from physics and chemistry to ecology
and the Earth sciences.
Models can help scientists
communicate their ideas, understand
