MAGNUM C HF X-RAY GENERATOR

1
Power Supply

Power supply unit:

• An electrical device that supplies electric power to an
electrical load. It can be AC, DC, Single phase or 3
phase power

Single phase power supply:

• A single wire delivering current to load & a single
neutral wire caring current back to the source.

Three phase power source:

• A three wire ac power circuit with each phase 120
electrical degrees apart.

2
Distribution Transformer
∆-Y Connection:

Note:
 Line voltage is the potential difference between
two phases
 Phase voltage is the potential difference
3
Activity

• What is the line voltage in your facility ?

• What is the phase voltage in your facility ?
• What is neutral to ground voltage in your facility ?

• Use DVM to check

4
1 Phase & 3 Phase Voltages
Measured Values:

Star connection

5
UPS
Offline/Standby UPS:
• The most basic model designed for use in small,
non critical applications that require protection
against momentary power lose.

6
Cont…
Online / Double Conversion UPS:
• A robust solution for providing continuous & clean
power to critical equipment

7
Cont…

Advantage of UPS Disadvantage of UPS

• Smooth operation • Complex structure

• Backup batteries • Expensive in price

• Surge protection • Need periodic

• Stable power maintenance

• Need cooling system

8
MAGNUM C HF Generator

• MAGNUM C® is a 100 kHz high frequency x-ray

generator
• This x-ray generator can add a digital interface
for digital radiography equipment
• It consists main power cabinet and membrane
control console with digital interface
• The control console allows the operator to select
the technique factors, image receptors & to
initiate an x-ray exposure
9
Magnum HF Generator Power

Power Requirements (40 - 80kw)

 Line Voltage: 400 VAC ± 10%, 3P
 Line Frequency: 50/60 Hz.
 Nominal Current : ≤5 Amps.
 Momentary Current : 105 Amps
 Momentary Power : 100kVA.

10
Magnum HF Generator Features
• Integral low speed starter or optional dual-
speed starter on some models
• 24 VDC, 110, or 220 VAC power source for
Bucky (fused at 0.8 amps)
• 24 VAC 150 watts power source for collimator
lamp
• 24 VDC 45 watts power source for system
locks
• Optional AEC & DAP (Dose-Area Product)

Beam Limiting Device:

Halogen Lamp:

A light source for collimation

(Usually 24V, 150Watt)

Mirror:

A reflecting mirror is used to keep

the lamp out of the x ray path & to
have concentrated/focused light

Lead Shutters:

Used to control the area of light

X-Ray Exposure Factors:

• Kilovolt (kv) 40 – 150kv
• Milliamperage (mA) 25-500 mA
• Exposure time (ms) 40 – 800 ms
• Source to image distance (SID)

Note:
 KVp will control the penetrating power/energy of the x ray
beam
 mAs will control the number of x rays & increase image
