Data Communication Part 2

The document discusses two types of signals used for data transmission: analog and digital. Analog signals are continuous and vary over time, exemplified by devices like old telephones and VCRs, while digital signals are discrete and represent data in finite values, as seen in computers and digital phones. Additionally, it includes a classwork task to create a table highlighting five differences between analog and digital signals.

DATA COMMUNICATION

PART 2
Signals for transmitting data
Signals for
transmitting data
Analog: Analog signals are
continuous wave signals that
change with time period.

For example:
• Photocopiers.
• old land-line telephones.
• audio tapes.
• old televisions (intensity and
colour information per scan
line)
• VCRs (same as TV
Signals for
transmitting data
Digital: Digital signals are
discrete signal is a nature.
Digital signal is a signal that is
being used to represent data as
a sequence of discrete values;
at any given time it can only
take on one of a finite number
of values
• Examples of digital
signals are:
• Computers
• Digital Phones
• Digital pens, etc.
Classwork
Create a table giving 5 differences between analog
and digital signals.
