Types of Research Methodology

The document outlines different types of research methodologies, including descriptive, analytical, applied, fundamental, quantitative, qualitative, conceptual, and empirical. Descriptive research involves surveys and fact-finding to describe current conditions without influencing variables. Analytical research uses existing facts and information to study and explain complex phenomena. Applied research aims to solve practical problems, while fundamental research focuses on theory development and generalization. Quantitative research relies on numerical measurement, while qualitative examines the why and how through smaller focused samples. Conceptual research relates to abstract theories, and empirical relies on verifiable experience or observation.

TYPES OF RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

MADE BY: DISHA BANSAL

DESCRIPTIVE
Surveys & fact finding enquiries . Purpose is description of the state of affairs as it exists at present. Researcher has no control over the variables. Like survey research , case study For eg: frequency of shopping, how adolescents spend there time?, who are the main consumers of organic food?

ANALYTICAL
Involves in-depth study and evaluation of available information in an attempt to explain complex phenomenon. The researcher has to use facts or information already available. For eg: surveys ,reports etc which have been done.

APPLIED

FUNDAMENTAL
It is mainly concerned with generalization and with the formulation of theory. Natural phenomenon and mathematics are the examples .

It is finding a solution to an immediate problem. Applied research deals with solving practical problems For example, applied researchers may investigate ways to: improve agricultural crop production treat or cure a specific disease improve the energy efficiency of homes, offices, or modes of transportation

QUANTITATIVE
Research based on measurement of quantity or amount Weighing, measuring are the examples of quantitative research Expression of a property or quantity in numerical terms Quantitative data is any data that is in numerical form such as statistics, percentages, etc

QUALITATIVE

Phenomena relating quality or kind Character, personality and man kind are the examples Helps in having insight into problems or cases. The qualitative method investigates the why and how of decisio n making, not just what, where, when. Hence, smaller but focused samples are more often needed than large samples.

CONCEPTUAL
Related to some abstract idea or theory Relies on literature

EMPIRICAL
Relies on experience or observation alone, i.e., data based research. Capable of being verified by observation or experiment. Experimenter has control over variables.
