Introduction
 Due to increased environmental concerns and demand for sustainable business practices, Green Supply
Chain Management (GSCM) has become essential to supply chain operations and modern logistic.

 GSCM also includes procedures to reduce environmental impact through efficient product recycling and
forecasting. Still, it is open to whether return estimates can be made accurately at individual container
levels, thus creating inconsistencies in forecasting algorithms.

 The class is a core part of the new concentration, which emphasizes Sustainability in development and
infrastructure that meets present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their
own needs.

 Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) effectively manages the material, information, and capital
flows and cooperates among companies and stakeholders in creating economic, social, and environmental
values .

3
Research Methodology
 The current research analyses how Sustainability is integrated into supply chain management and logistics
through secondary data analysis.

 This process involves systematically going through relevant past studies, reports, and publications.

 This method has several advantages: it enables one to understand existing concepts, reveal patterns that are
now in place, and derive insightful information without gathering new data.

 In addition, it allows one to evaluate the status of sustainability initiatives in the supply chain and logistics
sectors without incurring much cost and by using readily available data.

 Furthermore, this also strengthens the foundation laid by earlier studies so that a substantial body of
knowledge supports the analysis.

4
Concept of Sustainable Logistics & SCM
 When the first green supply chain was introduced in 1989, the field to create an ideal forecasting method that
businesses could use to predict products that might be recycled; however, the return of individual containers is
rarely predicted with precision, making this forecasting system very controversial and potentially leading to
inconsistent results.

 Sustainability is a strategic idea implemented into supply chain networks and business processes. Sustainability
is ”a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the future generations to meet their
own needs.

 The management of material, information, and cash flows as well as corporation among companies along the
supply chain while taking goals from all three dimensions of sustainable development, i.e., economic,
environmental, and social, into account, which are derived from customer and stakeholder requirements” and
how it defined sustainable supply chain management, giving it a more expansive definition.

5
Definition of Sustainable Logistics and
Supply Chain management
 Sustainable logistics is an evolving trend in the world of contemporary supply chain and transportation
management, focusing on social responsibility, environmental Sustainability, and long-term economic viability.

 At its core, it is about implementing initiatives that are meant to cut down on the ecological footprint of logistic
operations. Sustainability is defined as tactics and programs created to conserve resources while manufacturing
and delivering the product all the way until it reaches its final delivery/end-user.

 I would consider Sustainability more of a critical term than a keyword because there are depreciation models
that allow this. Still, if you see an exam question where SCOR model keywords also play in (Complimentary or
Competitive), then Sustainability might be critical.

 This research paper explains the term ”Supply Chain”: one of the most used definitions is aligning businesses
with consumers to deliver items.
6
Importance of sustainable logistics and Supply Chain

 Since supply chain resilience is crucial for handling the complexity of green synergies, its role in strategic
management is becoming increasingly recognized.
 It describes the capacity to predict, adapt, and recover from setbacks. It is necessary to guarantee that operations
continue to run smoothly.

 The interplay of structural and dynamic components facilitates a seamless transition from innovation to
resilience in green innovation by significantly enhancing resilience to setbacks.
 Supply chains raise ethical and environmental issues, and GSCM has become increasingly important as a
response.

 Pointing out the challenges and difficulties faced by both the environment protection objectives, this GSCM
approaches a paradigm shift on balancing between social and environmental goals while also keeping in mind
that business interests should not be forgotten so suitable addressed.

Factors influencing Sustainability

8
Factors influencing Sustainability
Environmental Factors
 The solutions to the environmental problems caused by the fulfilment of supply, production, and distribution
logistic operations that would efficiently allow cities to develop dynamically are critical.
 At present, logistics related activities are all directed only at obtaining logistical benefits concerning lowering
costs and improving customer service, while the negative consequences of people’s economic and residential
activities, such as external effects like traffic and environmental pollution (interferences outside the companies),
have almost no priority.
 Green Logistics includes fleet optimization, alternative energy fleets, low-carbon transportation fleets and
packaging, and low-carbon warehouses for distribution dedicated to logistics operations .
Social Factors
 The concept of Social Sustainability in Supply Chain Management (SSSCM) pertains to the management of
social issues both upstream and downstream of the leading business.
 This means that it extends beyond internal operations to include suppliers, stakeholders, the local community,
society, and customers. There are two types of operational practices: basic and advanced.
 These practices can promote social Sustainability throughout supply chains. Preserving the health and safety of
supply chain workers is the main objective of fundamental socially responsible supply chain activities.
9
Factors influencing Sustainability
Economic Factors
 Researching the economic sustainability dimension is essential for three reasons. The first point is the need for
more research on supply chains’ economic viability.
 Economic Sustainability has received very little attention, especially in business-oriented journals. In the context
of the supply chain, this is particularly true.
 Secondly, integrating sustainability components in Triple Bottom Line (TBL) research has received less attention
from studies addressing the economic sustainability dimension.
Technological Advancement
 Digital technologies are essential for supplying data about the actual value of returns. Through Industry 4.0
technology, products can communicate with consumers and alert businesses about issues related to their usability,
performance, and degradation.
 Blockchain ensures transparency and dependability, making it one of the most significant technologies. Customers
can also use it to determine whether ecologically friendly production and shipping practices were used.
 Inventory management is an integral part of SCM, wherein the two essential aspects of inventory management that
help meet customers’ needs while reducing expenses are accuracy and productivity.
10
Factors influencing Sustainability
Standards and Regulations:
 The implication guidelines should be supply chain management regulations that require companies to conform
to environmental and human rights standards.

 To comply with these rules, companies need to adopt, implement, and monitor those policies through a
continuous increase in compliance across their supply chains.

 Firms would have to roll out and maintain ethics policies, audit regularly, and report traceability, especially in
a systematic setup document risky scenarios so the governance is least infringed upon.

 These are in response to increasing awareness of the social and environmental impacts of economic decisions
made by investors and customers that drive corporations to take greater responsibility for their footprint.

11
Conclusion
 The research claims that, in light of the current environmental and societal problems associated with
conventional, as opposed to traditional, supply chain management (SCM), it is crucial to address the pressing
ecological and societal, as opposed to social, issues of conventional management, with the introduction of
sustainable logistics and SCM.

 Sustainable logistics embraces an array of essential factors, including sustainability drivers related to social
responsibility, economic viability, environmental concerns, and technical breakthroughs.

 Additional Sustainability drivers that sustainable logistics can contribute to supply chain strategic advantages
in the long term include lesser costs, operational effectiveness, and increased company reputation.
