Introduce the issues and concerns of Information


& Communication Technology as it is used in
large-scale organisations.
The special issues that arise in scaling up familiar
ICT infrastructure and systems to handle support
for large-scale, widely dispersed organisations
are introduced and discussed, along with
approaches to address these issues.

• Information systems can be defined as a


set of interrelated components (people,
procedure, software, hardware & data) that collect
(or retrieve), process, store, and distribute
information.
– To support: Decision Making, Coordination,
Control, Analyze Problems, Visualize

• Three (3) phases:
– Input Phase: capture data and store
– Process Phase: process according to rules
and procedure
– Output Phase: produce display on screen,
printed on a printer, save on a storage device

organization’s financial records.
