)
An operating system (O.S.) is the
main program which manages
computer hardware resources and
provides common services for
computer programs. The operating
system is an essential component of
the system software in a computer
system and allow an interaction with
the user.
Examples of popular modern
operating systems are: Android, BSD,
iOS, Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft
Windows, etc.
Linux
Linux is a big group of
operating systems under the
model of free and open source
software development and
distribution. The defining
component of Linux is the Linux
kernel,
an operating system kernel first
released on 5th October 1991,
by Linus Torvalds.
