ROBOTICS
Similarities between Humans
& Robots

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

Differences between Humans
& Robots

 Humans are organic

beings while robots are
not.

 Humans are far more

complex and superior to
robots in almost all
aspects.

 Humans are highly social

beings compared to
robots.

What is Robotics

 The study of Robots is called as Robotics.

 Robotics involves design, construction,

operation and use of robots.

 The goal of robotics is to design machines

that can help and assist humans.

Have you seen
some Robots in
movies ?

What is the
difference
between
Robots and
Machine ?

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

What is Robot ?

 Device which can sense , think and work ( act ) in

an intelligent manner similar to human being is
called as ROBOT.

 The objective of the robotics field is to create

intelligent Robots that can assist humans in a
variety of ways.

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

What is Machine ?

 Machine will only act (work)

 It will not sense and think intelligently like

human beings .

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

Example for difference
between
ROBOT and Machine ?
 Fan – switch on or switch off
It will not think on its own

 If a fan switch on or off based on

the environment automatically
then we can call it as Robot

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

Parts of ROBOT

 Sense - Sense organs - Sensors

 Think - Brain - Micro

controller

 Working - Hands, legs , mouth - Motors,

buzzers, lights

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

Sensing - Robot

 Robots use sensing devices which acts as sense

organs are called as Sensors (ex : IR sensor ,
Ultrasonic sensor , Camera)

SENSORS

Thinking - Robot

 Robots use thinking devices which acts as brain is

called as Micro controllers. ( ex : Arduino ,
Raspberry Pi)

Working - Robot

 Robots uses Motors ,lights ,speakers , etc.. which

helps in completing a given tasks. These are
called working devices

The early history of Robotics

 Czech word ROBOTA is nowadays called

as ROBOT
 ROBOTA means – FORCED LABOUR
 One of its first uses came from Czech
writer Karel Capek, who used the word
in his stage play, Rossum's Universal
Robots, in 1920.
 However, it is science fiction author
Isaac Asimov who has been given
credit for being the first person to use
the term in the 1940s by OxfordIntroduction

BASIC ROBOTRONICS
Classification of Robots
Based on CONTROL
 Manual Robots
 Autonomous Robots
 Semi-Autonomous Robots

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

Manual Robots

 Humans have to give order and control the

Robots to do every action.
 The Robots will be controlled by Human Beings

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

Autonomous Robots

 The Robots will be work automatically without

the help of Human Beings.
 It has to be programmed to think and work
according to the environment.

Introduction to RoboticsBASIC ROBOTRONICS

Semi-Autonomous Robots

 The Robots will be work automatically without

the help of Human Beings.
 Humans can also control the Robot whenever
Important decisions to be taken.

Classification of Robots
Based on LOCOMOTION
 Wheeled Robot
 Walking Robot
 Flying Robot
 Swimming Robot
 Arm Robot
 Slithering Robot
 Wall climbing Robot
 Humanoid Robot ( Atlas , Asimov ,
Sophia ,Nao)
 Swarm Robots

Robotics Application in Real -
Life

 Today, industrial robots,

as well as many other
types of robots, are used
to perform repetitive
tasks.
 They may take the form
of a robotic arm, robotic
exoskeleton or
traditional humanoid
robots.

Isaac Asimov's
Three Laws of Robotics
 A robot may not injure a human
being or, through inaction, allow a
human being to come to harm.
 A robot must obey the orders
given it by human beings except
where such orders would conflict
with the First Law.
 A robot must protect its own
existence as long as such
protection does not conflict with
the First or Second Laws. Introduction to Robotics

The Pros of Robotics

 Robotic systems are in many industries because

they can increase accuracy, reduce cost and
increase safety for human beings.
 In fact, safety is arguably one of robotics'
greatest benefits, as many dangerous or
unhealthy environments no longer require the
human element.
 Examples include the nuclear industry, space,
defence, maintenance and more.

The Cons of Robotics

 There are certain tasks coveted that are

simply better suited for human beings.
 Example - those jobs that require creativity,
adaptability and critical decision-making skills.
