Mathematics

The document is an art-integrated project by Urjasv Singh for Class 9b, focusing on Heron's formula, which calculates the area of a triangle using its side lengths. It outlines the formula, classifications, and various real-life applications in fields such as construction, surveying, engineering, and education. The project concludes with acknowledgments and a bibliography of sources used.

heron’s formula
about heron’s formula

• Heron’s formula is used to find the area of a triangle when we know the
length of all its sides. It is also termed as Hero’s Formula. We can apply
Heron’s formula to find different types of triangles, such as scalene,
isosceles and equilateral triangles. We don’t have to need to know the angle
measurement of a triangle to calculate its area, by using Heron’s formula.
*formula: Area = Square root of√s(s - a)(s - b)(s - c) where s is half the
perimeter, or (a + b + c)/2.

Classification: Heron's formula was first given by Heron

of Alexandria. It is used to find the area of different types
of triangles like equilateral, isosceles, and scalene
triangles or quadrilaterals. We can use heron's formula to
find the area of triangles when the sides of the triangle
are given. We use the semi-perimeter of the triangle and
the side lengths to find the area of the triangle using
heron's formula.
REAL LIFE APPLICATION
1.Construction and Architecture: In construction and architecture, Heron's formula can be used to calculate the
area of irregularly shaped plots of land, which can be helpful for determining the amount of material needed for
construction projects.

2.Surveying: Surveyors often use Heron's formula to calculate the area of irregularly shaped pieces of land. This
information is crucial for determining property boundaries, assessing land value, and planning developments.

3.Engineering: Engineers may use Heron's formula in various applications, such as calculating the area of
irregularly shaped structural components or determining the surface area of objects in mechanical design.

4.Geometry and Mathematics Education: Heron's formula is commonly taught in geometry classes as an
example of how to calculate the area of a triangle. Understanding and applying this formula can help students
develop their problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning.

5.Art and Design: Artists and designers may use Heron's formula to calculate the area of irregular shapes in their
work, helping them plan compositions and layouts effectively.

6.Navigation: Heron's formula can be used in navigation to calculate the area of triangular regions on maps or
charts, which can be useful for estimating distances or planning routes.

7.Physics: In physics, Heron's formula can be applied in various contexts, such as calculating the area of
triangular surfaces in three-dimensional space or determining the distribution of forces in a triangular structure.
